Artist Statement
My choreography is about world building. My world is one of music, happiness, individualism, insecurity, and ego. In this world, I envision my dancers as moving through life in nonspecific ways. They are not precious but curious, loving, angry and full of contradictions. As real people I want them to feel everything (and sometimes nothing). In this world, music is the driving force. When I hear music I see dance. The two are complicated lovers, constantly compelled to be together even when they are told it’s wrong. I seek to find the nuance and irony in music. I seek to redefine the music with my movement. Dance is the most human thing a person can do. I imagine my work and my world as reflecting this humanity.
